Arab Parliament president urges global recognition of Palestine on Balfour Declaration anniversary
CAIRO - Mohammed Ben Ahmed Al-Yamahi, President of the Arab Parliament, called for full international recognition of the State of Palestine with Al-Quds as its capital, in support of justice, international legitimacy, and human rights.
Marking the 108th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration on Sunday, Al-Yamahi condemned, in a statement, the "false promise" as one of the most unjust decisions in modern history.
He described it as granting rights to the undeserving, laying the foundation for the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian people, and paving the way for occupation policies of displacement, aggression, and violations against Palestinians, their lands, holy sites, and legitimate rights.
He noted that the recent signing of a ceasefire agreement represents "an important step toward halting the aggression on the Gaza Strip. However, it can only be completed through the effective and immediate start of reconstruction and the rebuilding of what was destroyed by the Zionist war machine."
Al-Yamahi welcomed Britain’s recent recognition of the State of Palestine, viewing it as "a correction of part of a historical injustice, since the Balfour Declaration caused a tragedy that the Palestinian people continue to endure."
He urged other countries, especially European nations, to "quickly follow suit, end the injustice against the Palestinians, and fully recognize the State of Palestine with Al-Quds as its capital, in support of justice, international legitimacy, and human rights."
He called for the immediate and unrestricted delivery of humanitarian, relief, and medical aid to the Gaza Strip amid an unprecedented humanitarian crisis affecting over two million Palestinians, holding the Zionist occupation fully responsible both legally and morally for the ongoing blockade and for preventing aid from reaching those in need.
The President of the Arab Parliament emphasized that the Palestinian people, "despite the disasters, genocide, displacement, aggression, and siege they have endured, remain steadfast on their land and committed to their inalienable rights."
He affirmed that the Palestinian cause will remain "the foremost and central Arab cause," and that the Arab Parliament will continue to support the Palestinian people and their just cause until they reclaim all their legitimate rights foremost among them the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, sovereign state with Al-Quds as its capital.
