President Tebboune stresses need to enhance AU’s field presence to combat terrorist groups, organized crime networks

LUANDA - The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, affirmed Sunday the need for the African Union to assert an active presence on the ground to combat terrorist groups and organized crime networks, as well as to deliver vital humanitarian assistance, through the concrete deployment of AU organs, most notably the Special Representatives of the Chairperson of the Commission, the full operationalization of the African Standby Force (ASF) and its regional brigades, and the intensification of field missions by the Panel of the Wise The remarks came in a speech delivered by the President of the Republic at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) on strengthening conflict prevention and resolution mechanisms in Africa, held in the Angolan capital, Luanda.
