Algeria's role, efforts within African Union applauded
ADDIS ABABA - The African Union (AU) Executive Council adopted on Thursday in Addis Ababa, at the close of its 48th session, a series of decisions commending Algeria's role and efforts within the AU, chief among them a decision concerning the 2025 Intra-African Trade Fair.
The Council commended the efforts of Algeria, both government and people, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for the "excellent organization" of the fair and praised the high level of participation, while recognizing it as a major African platform for trade, investment, innovation and industrial cooperation.
The Council also welcomed the fair's achievements and "outstanding" outcomes, including USD48.3 billion in trade and investment deals, over 112,000 visitors from 132 countries, 2,000 exhibitors, and 958 registered buyers, figures that demonstrate significant growth in transaction volumes across the fair's editions and reflect the expanding commercial momentum and deepening African economic integration.
The foreign ministers of AU member states underscored the fair's strategic importance as a key continental instrument for boosting intra-African trade, strengthening regional value chains, supporting African industrial output, and unlocking the continent's investment potential.
The Council further decided to institutionalize the Intra-African Trade Fair as a "marketplace" under the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement and as an African Union platform to accelerate intra-African trade.
Algeria hosted this continental economic event from 4-10 September 2025 under the theme "Gateway to New Opportunities."
