Algeria’s Zahra Tatar claims bronze in hammer throw

TARANTO (Italy) - Algerian athlete Zahra Tatar won the bronze medal in the hammer throw competition at the 2026 Mediterranean Games, held Wednesday, in Taranto, Italy.
Tatar secured the bronze medal with a throw of 66.88 meters. The gold medal went to Italy’s Sara Fantini, who recorded 73.03 meters, while Spain’s Laura Redondo Mora won the silver medal with a throw of 67.82 meters.
Meanwhile, Algerian sprinter Skander Djamil Athmani finished sixth in the 200-meter race, recording a time of 20.96 seconds.
Thanks to Zahra Tatar’s bronze medal, Algeria’s medal tally has risen to 34 at these Games (nine gold, seven silver and 18 bronze medals). Algeria currently sits in ninth place in the standings.
