"In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, Prayer and peace be upon His Messenger, Dear workers,

As Algerian workers celebrate International Workers' Day on May 1st, their commitment and efforts have driven the country to make substantial progress toward building an emerging economy.

We have consolidated an institutional climate that places workers at the core of economic life through investment in human capital and national expertise.

It is this national talent that is steering the new journey, overseeing and successfully delivering major structural projects and programs across vital sectors including energy, mining, water, agriculture, startups, and entrepreneurship.

The journey of loyalty to Algeria and to the sacrifices of its people and their aspirations demanded, from the very beginning, a set of priorities shaped by the responsibility to address fragile and troubled conditions: an economy on the brink of collapse, a social climate gripped by anxiety and distrust, broken bonds of civic confidence, and a state whose authority had eroded at every level.

Today, that journey has moved well beyond those early struggles, backed by a growing portfolio of strategic investments.

The achievements delivered by the hands of Algeria's working men and women, from the Western Mining Railway Line to ongoing projects such as the Integrated Phosphate Project, the Zinc and Lead Project at Oued Amizour, the rail network, and a series of completed and planned seawater desalination plants, mark a powerful new departure for Algeria into a competitive arena where the country's officials and workers continue to prove, at every turn, their ability to set their sights ever higher."

On this occasion, I wish to recall the key social measures taken since 2022, when the first wage increase was announced, as part of a series of raises and other measures to improve the living conditions of large segments of society: the unemployment benefit, the allowance for stay-at-home women, the allowance for persons with special needs, the student grant, the extension of maternity leave, the increase of the guaranteed national minimum wage and, by extension, the minimum retirement pension, and earlier, the income tax exemption for low-income earners.

In recalling these and other measures whose positive impact is felt across the workforce, raising living standards and making Algeria one of the leading countries in social coverage and welfare, I affirm that the State will continue to sustain social transfers and subsidies on essential consumer goods.

At the same time, the Government is called upon to remain vigilant and firm, deploying all available legal and regulatory tools to combat speculation, unjustified price volatility, and artificially induced shortages that place an undue burden on families, in defense of the State's social character.

On this International Workers' Day, I renew my greetings and the expression of my regard to working women and men.

Together, we recall with pride the struggles and sacrifices of workers and trade unionists, from the pioneers like the martyr Aïssat Idir, to those who carried Algeria on their shoulders and faced, during a bloody period, the machinery of barbaric terrorism, in the likeness of the martyr of national duty Abdelhak Benhamouda.

I extend to each working woman and each working man my most sincere wishes, while saluting the deeply rooted spirit in our society aimed at consecrating a culture of recognition, by paying symbolic tribute to our retired sisters and brothers on this occasion.

I take this opportunity to reaffirm the State's commitment to rigorously protecting the rights and dignity of workers, both active and retired, while reminding all those in positions of authority, at every level, of their duty to safeguard the well-being of the Algerian family, so as to create the conditions for its sons and daughters to thrive in a sustainable, open and productive country that honors hard work and sees it as the very foundation of citizenship.

Long live Algeria.
