In a joint press statement with the President of the Italian Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni, delivered following their talks at the Presidency of the Republic, the President of the Republic expressed his deep appreciation for Prime Minister Meloni's keenness to "strengthen the strategic partnership between the two friendly countries."

He said that Meloni's working and friendship visit to Algeria had provided an opportunity to take stock of the current state of bilateral relations, and underlined that both sides jointly expressed satisfaction at the progress made in bilateral cooperation in recent years.

The President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune also commended the efforts being made by Algeria and Italy to "strengthen coordination in combating irregular migration, human trafficking, terrorism, cross-border crime and various other security challenges across the Mediterranean."

At the regional and international level, the talks also provided an opportunity, added the President of the Republic "to exchange views on a number of issues of mutual interest, with a notable convergence of positions recorded on many of them."

As regards the situation in Africa, the President of the Republic said that he and the Italian Prime Minister reviewed the key outcomes of the second Africa-Italy Conference, held last month in Addis Ababa, adding "we expressed our concern over the situation in the Sahel and our commitment to addressing the challenges of terrorism and organized crime in this region, which is vital to both Africa and the Mediterranean basin."

He also touched on the situation in Libya, saying "We reaffirmed the importance of continuing efforts to find urgent solutions that would allow the country to break out of its current deadlock and guarantee the unity and sovereignty of the Libyan people over their territory. We also renewed our support for the efforts of the United Nations Mission in Libya."
