UNESCO recognizes Algeria’s precedence in caftan heritage

ALGIERS - The 20th session of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held in New Delhi, India, on Thursday, December 11th, 2025, explicitly and clearly recognized Algeria’s precedence in registering the caftan as a fundamental element of its rich cultural heritage, according to a communiqué issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
