The mujahideen taught the most marvellous lessons about sacrifice and heroism to the French colonialists.

The battle of Mount Ghazala took place on October 16, 1958 on the outskirts of the commune of Ghassoul, following an investigation operation carried out by the barbaric French colonial forces in the region, through which the enemy discovered the concentration location of two battalions of the National Liberation Army, led by the heroic martyr Ahmed Didani, known as "Lazrag".

The battle began at noon and continued until 7 p.m., according to the Directorate of Mujahideen and Rights-holders of El-Bayadh.

The colonizer used all types of heavy weaponry during this battle.

The courage of the mujahideen of the two battalions made it possible to inflict colossal losses on the enemy and succeeded in infiltrating the French forces, which recorded 200 deaths and injuries.

Only one Martyr fell on the field of honour and four mujahideen were injured during this battle, notably the leader Ahmad Didani.

Following the battle of Mount Ghazala, the French colonial army attempted to investigate and follow the tracks of the two battalions, but a battle took place the next day in the region of Mount Bounekala, not far from Mount Ghazala.

The battle unfolded throughout the entire day and the French colonialists used different types of weapons, notably bomber aircraft, incendiary bombs and napalm, to avenge the losses suffered during the battle of Ghazala.

The battle of Mount Bounekala witnessed eight injured mujahideen, four of whom who suffered heavy burns, while the losses in the ranks of the enemy were heavier, notably a bomber plane shot down.

The battle had ended at around 8 p.m. and the enemy began a gradual withdrawal from the battlefield, collecting their dead and wounded as they retreated, according to the same source.
