Tacherift: Soummam Congress, "timeless turning point" in Liberation Revolution

BEJAIA - Minister of Mujahideen and Rights Holders Abdelmalek Tacherift emphasized on Tuesday in Bejaia that the Soummam Congress represents a "timeless turning point" in the history of the glorious Liberation Revolution, serving as a "pivotal moment of reflection and organizational structuring for the Revolution."

Speaking at the opening of an international symposium titled "Culture of Resistance between History, Memory, and Imagination," held under the high patronage of President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune to mark National Mujahid Day and the dual anniversary of the North Constantine Offensive and the Soummam Congress (20 August 1955/1956), Tacherift reiterated that the congress constituted a crucial milestone in reorganizing the Revolution framework.

Tacherift added that this historic event "opened broader horizons for the spread, effectiveness, and ultimate victory of the Revolution," giving the liberation movement "time for reflection and restructuring while establishing the framework needed to confront colonialism and secure national sovereignty."

The minister noted that the dual anniversary of the North Constantine Offensive (20 August 1955) and the Soummam Congress (20 August 1956) "represents a bright chapter in our national memory, reflecting the epic struggle waged by the November generation on the path to liberation and freeing our beloved country from colonial rule."

Regarding the symposium organized for the anniversary of the Soummam Congress, Tacherift stated that the event's theme is of paramount importance, moving beyond mere commemoration toward "a scientific analysis and academic exploration of the culture of resistance and defiance that forged national identity."

He stressed that holding this international conference reflects "the constant commitment and high regard that President Tebboune devotes to the issue of national memory in our victorious Algeria, a commitment that embodies a firm political will to safeguard history and protect national symbols."
