National reforestation campaign plants over 1.3 million trees in single day
ALGIERS - Over 1.39 million trees were planted across Algeria on Saturday as part of a national reforestation campaign organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, according to Director General of Forests, Djamel Touahria.
In an interview with Algerian Radio on Sunday, Touahria announced that the campaign, conducted in collaboration with the "Algérie Verte" association, exceeded its target of one million trees, reaching 1.39 million.
The planted trees included a variety of species, such as olives, pistachios, and carobs, selected based on the geographic characteristics of each region.
Touahria attributed this achievement to the widespread participation of civil society from all sectors.
He also noted that the high turnout at many planting sites required the use of additional land.
Touahria urged stakeholders, particularly civil society, to preserve the planting sites by regularly watering the saplings to ensure their growth and the campaign’s success.
