Coronavirus in Algeria: Premier calls for avoiding alarmist reactions

ALGIERS – Prime Minister Abdelaziz Djerad urged on Wednesday during the government meeting a "calm, thoughtful and responsible communication" by "avoiding alarmist reactions," over the new coronavirus (Covid-19) in Algeria, said a press release from the Prime Minister office.

One case of coronavirus was confirmed in Algeria, announced Tuesday Health Minister

"The government is aware of the measures taken by the Ministry of Health following the announcement of a first case of coronavirus in Algeria," said the same source.

  "Having recalled the circumstances which led to the detection of the suspect case and the measures taken to deal with it, in accordance with national directives and the protocols defined by specialized international bodies, the Health Minister has provided details on the strengthening of prevention, surveillance and monitoring systems at all points of access to the territory national,” added the source

On Tuesday, one coronavirus (Covid-19) case was confirmed in Algeria, among the two suspected cases of Italian nationality.

 ""The monitoring and warning device set up at the national level has allowed to detect people meeting the definition of a suspected case (fever, respiratory symptoms and travel from an area of circulation of the new coronavirus)," the ministry of Health said.

The two suspected cases, aged 55 and 61 years old, are of Italian nationality and have been "dealt with according to the relevant national guidelines."

"Aware of the risk", the Ministry of Health affirmed to have "strengthened the prevention system around the confirmed case, and the surveillance and monitoring at all entry points"
