Moroccan forces impose arbitrary blockade on occupied Sahrawi cities

CANARY ISLANDS (Spain) - The charge d'affaires of the occupied Sahrawi territories, Abdallah Souilem said on Saturday that the Moroccan occupying forces imposed "an arbitrary blockade" on the occupied Sahrawi towns since the resumption of the armed struggle last November, 13th.

In an interview to APS, Souilem said that "since the treacherous attack perpetrated last November by the Moroccan occupying forces against defenseless Sahrawi civilians in the buffer zone of El-Guerguerat in Western Sahara, the Moroccan authorities intensified their repressive methods against the disarmed Sahrawi people."

"The Sahrawis are going through an extremely difficult situation, because they are facing barbaric Moroccan repression in the absence of international observers and media to report Moroccan crimes to the public opinion,” he regretted.

Military blockade and control at checkpoints have been reinforced at the entry and exit of towns, he added.

During this period, the Moroccan forces are carrying out "large-scale kidnapping and arrest operations in the occupied towns, particularly in Al-Ayun, Smara and Boudjdour," having caused the imprisonment of several young people and the launch of proceedings against others, for having participated in demonstrations in support of the Polisario Front's decision to resume the armed struggle until the total recovery of independence, he said.
