Health situation, drinking water supply examined during Premier-Governors meeting

ALGIERS - The evaluation of the measures taken to fight against coronavirus (Covid-19) and the specific and operational measures to be implemented to improve drinking water supply have been examined Tuesday during a videoconference meeting of Prime Minister Abdelaziz Djerad with Governors.

The Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and National Planning, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Minister of Water Resources, the Minister of Health, Population and Hospital Reform and the Minister of National Education took part in the meeting.

The Premier and the Governors have assessed "the measures taken to combat the coronavirus as well as those planned in order to strengthen the healthcare system capacities, in terms of beds for 'hospitalization and intensive care,” says the same source.

The meeting also examined "the specific and operational mechanisms to be implemented by the Governors, in coordination with the concerned sectors to improve drinking water supply to the population in order to compensate for the rainfall deficit in our country hit by drought,” the statement added.

With regard to flood prevention system, "an inventory was presented as well as the actions which must be taken immediately during the fall and winter seasons."

At the end of the meeting, the Prime Minister instructed the Governors to "increase the degree of vigilance in the face of the recent upsurge in the Covid-19 cases, while focusing efforts on improving the management of the hospitalization of patients ".
