Grine said, during his discussions with the delegations of the United Nations (UN), African Union (AU), the Arab League and the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC), that “Algeria has experienced, for the first time, honest and peaceful media coverage of the election campaign,” adding that “the initial assessment of this coverage is very positive despite some violations that didn’t affect the smooth running of the electoral process.”
The minister said that “before the launch of the campaign, we were afraid of the exploitation of the media by some fund holders, to make propaganda for some parties, however, the work of the Ministry over the last three years was fruitful,” underlining that his department launched “an action with the media and journalists since 2014 to ensure the training and moralization of the profession of journalism.”
In a reply to the questions of the delegations’ members, the minister said that “the Ministry of Communication conducted an awareness-raising action among journalists and officials of various media, that I personally met before the start of the election campaign and to whom I pointed out that the country’s stability is dependent on what they will broadcast: The Algeria media had a positive role.”
