Over 26% increase in oil tax revenues in 2017

 ALGIERS- Tax revenues achieved reached DZD2,127 billion in 2017 against DZD1,682.6 billion in 2016, up 26.4%, the Public Relations director at the General Tax Office, Brahim Benali, told APS.

In 2017, oil taxes stood at 39.2% of overall budgetary revenues, according to the official.

Regular tax resources reached DZD3,306 billion in 2017 against DZD3,076.4 billion in 2016, up 60.8% in overall budgetary revenues.

The Finance Act 2017 provided for DZD 2.200 billion in oil tax revenues. 

Concerning the first two months of 2018, the collected oil revenues stood at DZD438.6 billion against DZD344.8 billion in the same period of 2017 (up 48.2%).

Regular tax taxation amounted to DZD471.5 billion between January and late February 2018 against DZD476.7 billion over the same period in the previous year.

The Public Relations director at the General Tax Office said the shortfall in tax collection (for many years) amount to DZD2,000 billion.

The director-general of taxation, Mustapha Zikara, said the shortfall in tax collection is mainly due to unpaid court fines and tax debts of dissolved companies, some of which date back to many decades.
