Food security: Bouazghi stresses need for further investment in processing industry

RELIZANE (Algeria)- Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fishing Abdelkader Bouazghi on Thursday stressed the need to further invest in processing industry to ensure food security.

The minister, in a statement to reporters on the sidelines of an inspection visit to the province of Relizane, emphasized the role and importance of locally processed food in diversifying national economy and boosting the market.

Abdelkader Bouazghi said the surplus and non-marketed agricultural produce may be processed, creating integration between farmers and investors.

The minister called for an optimal use of the potentials of the region’s agricultural resources to develop its capabilities in the field, given that the province of Relizane is leader in the number of farming products.

The minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fishing visited the unit of milk by-products and juice production in Sidi Saada, in addition to pilot farms in El Metmar, Relizane and Zemmoura.
