In an assessment meeting on the progress of the epidemiological situation and the latest developments of the health situation, related to the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, chaired by Prime Minister Abdelaziz Djerad, it was underlined a “worrying development of the epidemiological situation, marked mainly by the rise in the number of infection cases, an increase in incidence rates in some provinces and an acceleration of viral circulation reflected by a high rate of positive test results.”
This pandemic rebound is due to the fact that citizens have abandoned caution reflexes and the non-respect of prevention measures, notably the compulsory wearing of masks, the respect of physical distancing and hand hygiene, said the source.
“Gatherings of all sorts and the non-respect of the health protocols in different places, notably means of transport, stores and public spaces were the main factors which caused the rapid spread of the virus,” said the source.
After the reports on the current situation and proposals put forward, it was decided “to immediately implement an emergency action plan with precise measures, staggered over time, to contain the spread of the pandemic and combine all the human and logistical conditions to ensure the best care for patients.”
This action plan will focus on three main lines, namely “the strengthening of prevention measures in their health and security aspects, a more efficient communication strategy and a stronger consciousness-raising action towards citizens and the rigorous implementation of regulatory coercive measures.”
The emphasis was placed on “the need to supply hospitals with necessary equipment, PCR tests and antigen tests, protection means, oxygen and additional beds as well as the need to remobilize health establishments to concentrate their activities on providing treatment to patients with Covid-19, which has become a requirement.”
