Algeria’s trade deficit at USD3.18 billion in H1 2019

ALGER-Algeria’s trade deficit reached USD3.18 billion in the first half of 2019 against USD2.84 billion in the same period in 2018, said the Algerian Customs.

Algerian exports totalled USD18.96 billion during the first half of 2019, against USD20.29 billion during the same period in 2018, down by 6.57%, while imports hit USD22.14 billion, against USD23.14 billion, down by 4.30%, according to figures provided by the Algerian Customs' Department of Studies and Prospects.

From January to June, exports covered 86% of imports, against 88% in the same period of the previous year, added the source. 

Hydrocarbons accounted for most of Algeria's foreign sales during the first half of 2019 (93.10% of the overall export volume), reaching US$17.65 billion, against US$18.84 billion in the same period in 2018, down by 6.31%.

Non-hydrocarbon exports remain marginal, with nearly USD1.31 billion in the first half of 2019, which represents 6.90% of the total volume of exports, against USD1.45 billion in the same period in 2018, down by 10.01%.
