Boukadoum: Algerian diplomacy grants special interest to Africa, notably Sahel and immediate environment

ALGIERS- Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum on Monday reiterated the main principles of the Algerian diplomacy, namely the respect of the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of States, the non-interference in their internal affairs, and the respect for the rules of good neighborhood.

The minister also underlined the particular interest the Algerian diplomacy grants to Africa, especially the Sahel region and its immediate environment.

 In an address during a consultation meeting at the National People's Assembly (APN), Boukadoum outlined the positions of Algeria and its diplomatic actions in a number of world questions, notably Western Sahara, Libya and Palestine.

The Algerian diplomacy works on several levels to materialize these major orientations, while granting a particular interest to Africa, particularly in the Sahel and its immediate environment (Morocco, Mediterranean, Western Sahara, Europe and Arab World), he added.

The foreign minister reiterated Algeria's support to the Saharawi people right to self-determination and their appeal to speeding up the appointment of a new UN Personal Envoy for Western Sahara.

 "Algeria continues efforts to raise the awareness of the international community, particularly the Security Council, to the importance of responsibly addressing this lingering question," he said.

 Regarding Libya, the Algerian chief diplomat said that "despite the serious developments in this country, Algeria, deeply confident about the Libyan parties, "pursues  efforts to ease tensions and convince different parties about the importance of resuming the political settlement process.

 Algeria will multiply contacts to persuade Libyans to return to the negotiating table, said Boukadoum, adding that Algeria was following with interest the various Libyan initiatives aiming the relaunch of the political process.

 With regard to the Palestinian issue, the foreign minister stressed that Algeria reaffirms support to the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to establishing an independent State with Al-Quds as its capital, through the implementation of international resolutions and the rejection of a fait accompli policy.

 In addition, Algerian diplomacy attaches "a particular interest to the promotion of cooperation, partnership and integration within all foras," added Boukadoum.

 As such, Algeria "works to strengthen the African integration through a stronger economic cooperation and trade, and strive to strengthen cooperation with Maghreb, Arab and Islamic partners," said the minister.

 The Algerian diplomacy "advocates a balanced and pragmatic policy in its relations with the various partners as part of a win-win approach based on mutual respect, reciprocity and a balance of interests. The goal is to maximize the opportunities for economic partnership, to attract foreign investment, to promote Algerian exports and to enhance the destination Algeria," he said.
