Constitution amendment seeks to build strong State, protect society against turbulences

ALGIERS- President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, said on Sunday that the amendment of the constitution seeks to build “a strong State” and protect the society against the turbulences shaking fraternal countries.

The amendment of the constitution seeks to build a strong State where citizens, equal before the law, exercise their rights freely and lawfully, said President Tebboune in a speech on the sidelines of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the creation of the Constitutional Council, read on his behalf by his counsel Boualem Boualem.

"The idea of establishing a deep and comprehensive constitution amendment has been expressed, before and after the elections of 12December 2019, as a fundamental step for the advent of the new Republic that we are calling for," President Tebboune added.

The constitutional amendment also aims at "supporting the Algerian society to reach modernity and stability with a view to protecting it against the turbulences that are stirring brotherly and friendly countries ," said the President of the Republic.

Algeria "is now preparing to amend its Constitution following a well-studied methodology through the launch of consultations with national personalities in conjunction with the establishment of the Committee of Experts to formulate proposals for a constitutional revision Before the wide-ranging debate that will ensue in Parliament and which will be broadcast live through different media so that citizens are involved in the same way as political actors and civil society as a whole," he said.
