The meeting, which will take place at the Palace of Nations (in terms of contributors’ addresses) and at the International Conference Center (in terms of the organization of workshops and debates), will be marked by the presence of 1,100 participants, including members of the government, central and local officials, elected representatives as well as economic partners.
It is with a view to establish a new Algeria, to which President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune has called, that the meeting Government-Walis 2020 will be organized in order to analyze and explain the government’s action plan and its implementation mechanisms, according to an approach based on the participation of local authorities, represented by officials and elected representatives, so that to “implement in an efficient, integrated and participative manner all the development actions for which President of the Republic has committed and which are contained in the government’s action plan,” said the source.
This meeting is also part of “this new governance spirit, established on the basis of a harmonious sustainable development approach, able to develop the living conditions of the citizens and their environment,” according to the source, adding that the meeting also aims to “extend reflection and implement the plan decided on by the public authorities in order to set up an effective wealth-generating development approach, conducive to the networking of innovative initiatives of different players at the regional and local levels.
The themes retained for this meeting focus on the ongoing improvement of the citizens’ living conditions through a planning process of local development systems, rational management of economic property, the implementation of an urban governance based on the modern management of new cities and the management of the road issues as part of an integrated multi-sectoral strategy meant to reduce road accidents.
The other themes are related to the opening up of border and mountainous areas, digitalization of local authorities’ services, sustainable development, decentralization, delegation of services and the accompaniment of startups.
This meeting’s objective is to break with the practices of local development plans synonymous with financing programmes, placing the citizens’ living conditions, the equity and reduction of inequalities at the heart of the new local development view.
