Emergency measures to care of flood-stricken population in In Guezzam

TAMANRASSET (Algeria)– The inter-ministerial commission, dispatched to assess the situation in the flood-hit border region of In Guezzam (420 km extreme south of Tamanrasset), announced a series of emergency measures to care of the affected populations.

Over the past days, the south of Algeria, especially the province of Tamanrasset (1920 km south of Algiers) has been hit by floods caused by heavy rain falls.

Following a meeting o the commission, Governor of Tamanrasset Djilali Doumi announced several measures, namely the distribution of 100 food parcels and 400 blankets to the victims.

The victims will also receive additional batches of blankets and tents.  5 huge trucks have been mobilized for rain water drainage while the Civil Protection units were reinforced by additional 40 officers and 10 pumps.     

   

The city of In Guezzam was divided in three areas; each one supervised by an executive manager in charge of assessing the situation and monitoring the implementation of the emergency programmes, said the Governor.

Special programmes will be elaborated to curb floods and a survey for the protection of In Guezzam city from the dangers of floods by Water Resources Ministry .  

Decided by Interior minister Interior Minister Noureddine Bedoui, the inter-ministerial commission is composed of executives from the Ministries of the Interior, Local Authorities, and National Planning, Water Resources, Transport and Public Works, Health, Population, and Hospital Reform, and Housing, Urban Planning and the City.
