Grasping ICTs, must for economic growth
ALGIERS- Experts in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) highlighted Tuesday here the need for acquiring such technologies to ensure the country’s economic growth, adding that this development relies on grasping ICTs. During a meeting organized by El Moudjahid paper, experts have assessed that ICT impact on the Algerian economy " is practically non existent" and that project of development of information society in Algeria "in an embryonic state, » noting that the use of these technologies by the Algerian companies "is still in the beginning."

ICT: "Strategic nature" of Algerian-Korean relations emphasized
ALGIERS- Minister of Postal Services and Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) Hamid Bessalah emphasized with Korea's Public Procurement Service Administrator Tae-Kyun Kwon the "strategic nature" of the Algerian-Korean relations and the bilateral cooperation, especially in the field of ICTs, a ministry's release said on Tuesday. During the meeting, Bessalah mentioned the projects underway with Korea Telecom (KT), Korea Polytechnic University and CATICTA project, and focused on e-Algeria programme, which aims mainly at establishing the information society and a digital economy.

Medias and women issues: Occasional interest
Djaafar, Bitat and BessalahALGIERS- Minister for Family and Women's Affairs Nouara Saadia Djaafar on Thursday said media coverage of women issues is still occasional. Speaking in a meeting held by the Council of the Nation on women's role in the media, Djaafar emphasized the necessity to grant further interest to women, with a view to ensuring a better dealing with their concerns. Underlining the low rate of female decision-makers using the media, the minister said women politicians should forge "friendship ties" with the media.

Algerian, Omani news agencies agree exchanging news
MUSCAT (Oman)- A cooperation agreement between Algerie Press Service (APS) and Oman News Agency (ONA) has been signed Wednesday afternoon in Muscat by Zemzem Bint Slimane Errachidia, General Manager of ONA and Nacer Mehal, APS General Manager. The agreement inked in the presence of both countries’ Foreign Ministers Mourad Medelci and Youssef Ben Alaoui Benabdellah who co-chair the Algerian-Omani joint commission is centred on the daily exchange of news and photos via Internet and on coordination in the technological choices through both agencies experiences.

ICTs: Algeria, Portugal committed to boosting bilateral cooperation
ALGIERS- Algeria and Portugal have pledged to boost bilateral cooperation in the fields of postal services and information and communication technologies (ICTs), the Ministry of Post and ICTs said on Monday here. Algeria and Portugal have agreed to revive those areas of cooperation previously identified by committing to implement promptly the planned actions organized through a sustainable exchange of visits of experts from both countries, the source indicated. The decision was taken at a meeting between the Post and ICT Minister Hamid Bessalah and Portugal's Ambassador to Algiers, José Fernando Moreira da Cunha.

Algeria, a major partner of COPEAM
Emmanuel HoogPARIS (France)- President of the Permanent Conference of Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators (COPEAM) Emmanuel Hoog declared Thursday that Algeria is "a major partner" of his organization. "Algeria is a major partner of the COPEAM. I am a president representing a northern Mediterranean country. I succeeded to the Algerian Hamraoui Habib Chawki, who chaired the organization for six years," Hoog told APS on the sidelines of a press conference held in Paris to present the programme of the 17th annual meeting of COPEAM, scheduled for April in the French capital.

COPEAM: Three key audiovisual projects presented in Paris
PARIS (France) - President of the Permanent Conference of Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators (COPEAM) Emmanuel Hoog presented Thursday in Paris, the three key projects to be tabled next April to 17th meeting planned in the French capital. The projects are "the Mediterranean Audiovisual University," "Portal of Audiovisual Files (Med Mem) and Mediterranean Television Channel. "These projects are included among the ten ones retained during the COPEAM meeting, held in Cairo last April. These projects are held with dynamics, enthusiasm and willingness," Hoog told a news conference.
