A $35 tablet "computer" in India for schoolchildren
NEW DELHI (India)- India has developed a $35 Touch Screen "computer" for students, an initiative that aims to give the youth a better education and better technical skills to support economic growth in Asia's third largest country. From primary school to university, all students will benefit from this tool which can run on solar energy and is especially equipped with a browser, a media player and a videoconferencing feature. The students will be the first users of this computer as from next year. Indeed, the Indian Department of Human Resources and Development will install the high speed internet in all the 22,000 Indian colleges so that Students can use the new tool of 1,500 rupees (35 dollars).

ITU chief highlights ICT development in Algeria
ALGIERS –Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Hamadoun Touré highlighted Tuesday in Algiers, Algeria's efforts in recent years on development and spread of information and communication technology (ICT). Considering that ICT remains the "primary tool for development" in countries, Touré has called the development undergone by Algeria over the past ten years a "revolution". ITU chief, speaking at a press conference shortly after signing a letter of intent between Algeria and ITU, noted that investments by Algeria in ICT have enabled the country to put on an "unprecedented platform." "You are fortunate to have as President, Abdelaziz Bouteflika who is a dream for the African continent and when a dream of leader is shared, it becomes a vision," he said, alluding to Algeria's impact on ICT penetration in Africa.

Algeria to build, on its land, Alsat-2B by late 2010
ALGIERS –Algeria will, by late 2010, build on its territory, another satellite called Alsat-2B, which launch is scheduled for the end of 2011, Director General of the Algerian Space Agency (ASAL), Azzedine Oussedik announced Thursday. Oussedik who reviewed in a press briefing the timing of the manufacturing in Toulouse (France) and the launch, on July 12, of the high-resolution satellite Alsat-2A since the Sriharikota site, located in Chennai (Southern India) said that "the engineers who worked on this project will build themselves, in Algeria, the satellite Alsat-2B.” "Alsat-2B has a high accuracy with an image per day. It will be the twin of Alsat-2A, which will be operational in one month with reception of an image every three days," ASAL director said.

Algeria successfully launches Alsat-2A satellite
ALGIERS- Algeria has successfully launched Monday the high-resolution satellite Alsat-2A since the Sriharikota site, situated in Chennai (South India), the Algerian Space Agency said. With a spatial resolution of 2.5 meters, the Algerian satellite of Earth Observation, Alsat-2A, is part of the Algerian Space Programme for 2020 adopted by the government in 2006, the same source added. The satellite, launched at 9:23 a.m. Indian hours local (4:53 hours Algeria), is the second to be put on orbit after Alsat-1 was launched November 28, 2002.

DTT: Up to 48 television channels in Algeria within four years
ALGIERS- Communication Minister Nacer Mehal announced Thursday in Algiers that Algeria will have, within four years, 48 television channels as part of the digital terrestrial television (DTT). There will be 48 television channels in the coming four yours, Mehal told reporters on the margin of People's National Assembly (Parliament)'s oral questions session. The minister recalled that he visited Wednesday Kef Lakehal locality in Constantine where he "set the northern plate of the digital terrestrial television."In the same context, the Minister noted that the sector of communication, including national television, calls for reforms, saying the stake "now is to return to credibility and professionalism". He therefore considered that it is time to consider how to carry out these reforms, which must be undertaken with the participation and consultation of all television professionals, which ensures a public service.

El-Tarf regional radio broadcasts officially launched
EL TARF (Algeria)- Radio broadcasts of the new regional station of El-Tarf, which will start broadcasting regularly from July 5, was officially launched Wednesday by Minister of Communication Nacer Mehal. In his speech broadcasted on this radio station waves, the minister stressed on efforts made by officials of Algerian Radio and local authorities to embody this project, wishing this station will be opened to youth, culture, and proximity issues. Mehal also insisted on the importance of interactivity in making and broadcasting programmes. The Minister had previously visited offices of the station and expressed his satisfaction about this achievement and the latest equipment it uses. This 45th Algerian operational radio station already in Algeria stretches on 3,800 m², it employs 27 workers including journalists and technicians who went on upgrading training in headquarters of National Radio in Algiers.

Printing companies: Focus on marketability rules
Nacer MehalConstantine (Algeria) - The rules of commerciality regarding collection of receivables should be highlighted, Communication Minister, Nacer Mehal underlined Wednesday during a visit to the new headquarters of East Printing Company, in Constantine. Responding to a concern related to debts of national press, the Minister considered that the printing corporations have to find a way to "achieve solution on a contractual basis.” Nevertheless, Mehal added that this problem is the prerogative vested in these companies in terms of management and performance, through well "managing time" as marketing is considered as a science. Visiting the new modern equipment at the printing company in Constantine, the Communications Minister, congratulating workers in this company, insisted on the maintenance of equipment and cleanliness of the premises which make the "pride for the country."
