Cement: Public sector production to increase by 500,000 tonnes in 2010
ALGIERS – State-owned cement works should increase their production in 2010 by 500,000 tonnes to bring it to 12 million tonnes, an official of Sgp-Industrie des ciments (SGP-GICA) told APS. This forecast for next year takes into consideration the constant upgrading operations in the twelve state-owned cement works. A programme to expand cement plant capacities is due to be finalized during next year. The extension programme will cover cement works of Ain El Kebira, Chlef and Béni Saf which will reflect an additional production of 6 million tonnes of cement, i.e. additional 2 million tonnes in each of these three cement works, the same source said.

Algeria-Venezuela Joint Committee wraps up: Several agreements inked
ALGIERS- Works of the Algerian-Venezuelan third joint committee wrapped up Wednesday in Algiers. A minutes and several agreements of cooperation in fields of energy, agriculture and culture were inked. The agreements, inked by Energy and Mines Minister Chakib Khelil and his Venezuelan counterpart Rafael Ramirez is centred on the organization of training courses, by the Algerian Oil Institute, in the benefit of Venezuelan engineers, phytosanitary and veterinary cooperation and on the cultural exchanges.

Algeria has made "praiseworthy" efforts for its economic stability and development
Vahit Erdem in AlgiersALGIERS- Algeria has made "praiseworthy" efforts for the stability and development of its economy, said Wednesday here Vahit Erdem, head of the Mediterranean and Middle East Special Group of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO/PA.) Speaking in the wake of a meeting-debate between Algerian MPs and NATO/PA delegation, Erdem pointed out that Algeria has energies and "extraordinary dynamics likely to propel it among prosperous nations," adding that "Algeria has made praiseworthy efforts to ensure the stability and the development of its economy outside hydrocarbons."

Vehicles: Inter-sectoral committee for rationalization of fuel use
ALGIERS- An inter-sectoral committee has been recently set up so as to examine and propose a regulatory framework for the rationalization of fuel consumption of vehicles, Energy and Mines Minister Chakib Khelil said on Wednesday here. The committee, which brings together sectors of Transports, Environment, Industry, Trade and Energy, aims at "rationalizing the consumption of fuel, improving engine efficiency (…) in addition to price regulation," Khelil told a seminar on the rationalization fuel consumption in the sector of road transports. The ad hoc committee is also in charge of addressing the increasing consumption of petrol and diesel oil in Algeria.

Ad hoc committee to develop SMEs in Algeria
ALGIERS- An ad hoc committee has been set up Wednesday in Algiers by the National Economic and Social council (CNES) and the National Consultative Council for the Promotions of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (CNC/SME). The committee will be in charge of seeking ways and means to develop and strengthen the capacities of the Algerian SMEs. Speaking at the installation ceremony, the head of CNES Mohamed Seghir Babes, emphasized the need to adopt good governance practices for SMEs, improve their competitiveness, master expertise, innovation and integrate new technologies.

OPEC output expected to be maintained in December's meeting
ALGIERS- The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) output is expected to be maintained at its next meeting scheduled for next December 22 in Angola, Energy and Mines Minister Chakib Khelil said Wednesday. "We will maintain the same level of production until it may have a clearer visibility of the global economic situation," Khelil said to reporters on the sidelines of a conference on the rationalization of fuel consumption in the transport sector. Any decision on production of the Cartel member countries will depend on the global economy, the minister said.

Next French investments in Algeria may exceed $5 billion
Laurence ParisotALGIERS- Next French investments in Algeria may exceed five million dollars, especially as Algeria is a rich country representing huge potentialities for French firms, said Tuesday here the head of MEDEF (Movement of the French Enterprises), Laurence Parisot. "Investing more than five billion dollars in the coming years is an objective France can meet, for we are present in virtually all strategic sectors in Algeria, such as energy, water and transport," she affirmed in a meeting with reporters. In any case, French firms still seek to work in Algeria, added Parisot, emphasizing French companies' willingness to expand abroad and face competition from other countries, such as Italy, Spain and China.
