Air raids near Gao and Kidal, ECOWAS summit postponed
MALI CRISIS

ALGIERS- French forces launched Sunday air raids in northern Mali alongside the Malian forces which launched a land offensive against armed groups, while the West African summit on the situation in this country is postponed to January 16.

French army, at the third day of its intervention in Mali to support Malian army, bombed positions of armed groups in Gao and Kidal, northern Mali.

“What started to be done today is to deal with terrorists rear bases,” French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius stated.

Four Rafale aircrafts bombed positions near Gao and destroyed several targets, according to a statement from the French ministry of Defense Jean-Yves Le Drian.

Other aircrafts also operated air strikes in the region of Kidal, precisely in Aghabo, a regional security source said.
