Algeria elected to FAO Council

Rome- Algeria was elected to the Food and Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in Africa’s group for a three-year term, a source close to the Organization said Thursday in Rome.

Algeria was chosen with three other African countries (Cameroon, Guinea, and Togo) from December 1, 2011 to June 30, 2014. The council is the executive body of FAO Conference. It exercises the powers delegated by the conference, and holds meetings at least three times between the ordinary sessions of the Conference.

The council includes 48 members state, each one is elected by the Conference for a three-year term, one third of members is renewed every year.
